EKO Greece - The Entrepreneurship and Social Economy Group
EKO, the Entrepreneurship and Social Economy Group, is a non-profit organization based in Athens, Greece, established in 2013. It operates locally and across Europe, targeting primarily youth. EKO's mission is to foster an inclusive, prejudice-free society capable of sustainable development. EKO focuses on:
Youth and Women Unemployment: Addressing economic challenges from the decade-long economic crisis and the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
Cultural Intolerance and Xenophobia: Combating exclusionary attitudes stemming from the migration crisis.
Political and Social Participation: Promoting greater involvement of individuals, especially youth, in political and social spheres both nationally and across Europe.
Environmental Issues: Tackling local, national, and international environmental challenges affecting sustainable development.
EKO's team is experienced in managing and coordinating both national and international projects, emphasizing quality assurance, dissemination, and sustainability. Their diverse expertise covers research, skills development, and training implementation tailored to project needs. The team includes experienced youth workers, culturally diverse volunteers from European programs (ESC, EYE), and board members who are psychologists, educators, and entrepreneurs. These professionals serve youth, schools, universities, and various institutions including ministries and chambers of commerce. Currently, EKO employs four permanent staff members, two project-based members, and three volunteers.
EKO has established a robust network of over 100 partners spanning Europe, the Euromed region, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. It is a founding member of the Euromed Network of Youth Organizations (Y-NEMO) and the International Alliance for Peace and Development (IAPD), which includes members from European and MENA countries. Additionally, EKO supports the Observatory to Prevent Extremist Violence (OPEV) by organizing events, information days, and conferences to raise awareness and combat violent extremism.
